Break A Drumstick
Culture.
To many this may stir images of opera, the symphony, or a favorite museum. For others, it brings to mind an old Homer & Jethro 8-track, a Jean-Claude Van Dam video, or a medical inspection for strepthroat.
Regardless of whether we find ourselves strolling through the Louvre or thumbing through the March '83 issue of People magazine in the clinic waiting room, I think we can all agree that the person who invented the tongue depressor was a sadistic misanthrope, and that Kirstie Alley should never have been given her own series.
And that, by far, one of the most edifying experiences throughout history has been the "theatuh". ("Theatre" written with a snooty accent only for dramatic effect and because my son bet me I couldn't find the quotation marks on the keyboard after 3 scotch and waters. #Ha, Ha!*, ~I guess I showed him!^) Musicals, comedies, drama, avant-garde; all perfectly legitimate excuses for hanging up on a telemarketer, or leaving the house at the prospect of visiting in-laws.
Of course, at the mere mention of the word theatre, one name automatically springs to mind. A name synonymous with live performance. A name instantly recognizable as one of the legends of the acting world. By now, I'm sure you've realized that I'm speaking of none other than, arguably, the greatest thespian of our time; Foghorn Leghorn.
Although, better known in recent years for his work in film (in which, incidentally, he performs almost all of his own stunts), he actually got his start on the stage. From a somewhat less than auspicious performance to a packed brooding house in central Alabama at the tender age of egg, Mr. Leghorn went on to star in some of the greatest plays to grace a proscenium; "Hamlet & Eggs", "Our Barn", and a fascinating portrayal of Rum Tum Tuggle in an off-broadway production of "Chickens".
Be sure to catch a performance near you.
