Just A Thought
Am I the only one who finds the concepts of ‘honesty’ and ‘truth’, in abstract, to be too generic, fluid and subjective to be reliable? At best they seem to be slippery creatures that, in the wrong hands, are just as dangerous as the most blatant lie. Although wordier, I much prefer ‘best available current facts’.
Some will say this is a semantic argument; to which I would respond, “Very likely”. I would also argue that semantics is a much underrated and vital tool.

Times have changed, Pinhole. It used to be that those words were used as observations. Now they're most often used as a kind of convoluted body armor by those who would not normally be accused of participating in either one.

I would have to agree, but I think it's important to remember that these words can be powerful. If the word "truth" could be reserved for things that are irrefutable, then it would not be overused and maybe you wouldn't feel the need to resort to "best available current facts."
