Maybe If I Had A Cape...
Each time a legend makes a comeback it’s in a slightly more spectacular form. A few years ago “Hercules’s Legendary Journeys” grew more supernatural every week, and with each incarnation of “Superman”, Clark Kent’s horn rims become just a touch crisper and more ebony. Of course, new heroes are cropping up all the time, too.
Printed word aside, television is surely due a huge credit for reviving the popularity of the personal hero, from which legends are born. Professional sporting luminaries and movie stars usually enjoy a brief reign as public paladins until they prove themselves all too human to be worthy of our idolatry. But in the past few years technological advances have evened the playing field between superheroes and mere mortals. Once MacGyver saved an entire village from destruction using only a maxi-pad, a paper clip and a stick of Juicy Fruit®, we all realized the ability to see through someone’s clothes wasn’t a necessary ingredient for rescuing humanity. The world was now ready for an everyman hero.
While I fall far short of the qualifications for portraying “Extremely Average Man”, I could probably qualify for the role of “Pinhole, his quirky and inept sidekick". At some point, I would inevitably spill coke on the “Avemobile” while stammering clumsily to some beautiful girl. As “Extremely Average Man” performs the mundane task of waxing the soda stain off of the Yugo, while waiting for me to finish my therapy session, it gives him the chance to develop an idea for a fundraiser promoting the use of denim as an alternative fuel source, and work on his Cagney impression.
Earth is now safe, at only the cost of my dignity and a can of Turtle Wax®.
Does anyone, besides me, question whether it was worth it?
Maybe if I had a mask, as well...
Pinhole's Shop

Awwww...man! And here I thought soybeans were going to be the fuel of the future! However, if it means PINHOLE and his sidekick Averageman (I like it reversed) are out making the world safe from Barbara Bush's progeny it's definately worth it

Cool! You put enough "w's" in "Aw" to create a link. It doesn't go anywhere, but it's a link, nonetheless! And you're probably right about the soybeans.

Shows where I've been. I thought that denim already was an alternative fuel source. (I guess I got that from watching too many rodeos.)

The answer to the burning question "was it worth it?", depends on how the Cagney impression turned out.

Unless you're able to witness the facial expressions and genuflections, he sounds like Greta Garbo on a bender. Which is actually just as entertaining.

So who is Extremely Average Man's arch-nemesis? Is it Captain Awesome? The Rude Ranger? And how did he get his powers, anyway?
Reply to this
I'd guess his arch-nemesis is anyone with the audacity, or gumption, to get off the couch to fetch their own beer.
And what powers? Weren't you listening? He's "Extremely Average Man".

Television has the power to make an ordinary mean to a popular extraordinary human being.

While the two neighborhoods could not be more economically diverse, they share many commonalities:
1. There are no manufacturing firms, or companies that employ a large workforce.
2. Few if any new businesses are ever opened, in either neighborhood.
3. The few residents that do start an entrepreneurial venture, quickly move to other locals, where the taxes are lower, and the streets are safer.
4. And, finally, and most importantly, the residents only see relief and economic opportunity come from the outside - in the form of grants for the University, or government relief for the inner city residents.
