A Bug's Strife

Forelegs locked in pious pose
The Mantids make their plea;
Though, who responds to these appeals
The Mantids can’t agree.

“A Mantis spirit”, some will claim,
“Who gave his wings for all.”
“A triad set of Insect Ghosts”,
Still others, firmly, call.

Denominations grow like weeds,
And superstitions, too.
A chasm forms within the race
Then Insect wars ensue.

One day a Holy Mantis met
A simple Walking Stick.
No genuflection, simply, “Hi”;
The air was tense and thick.

“I said ‘Hello’”, the Stick, once more;
The Mantis merely sputtered;
Then gave the Stick a sidelong glance…
"Atheist!", he muttered.

      We probably can, if we just listen.

      Thanks.

    At least the insects have an excuse. They "bug" each other.

      I can't believe you said that. (And I'm a little upset that I didn't think of it)

    I'm wondering where the cicadas fit into the whole different denominations thing. After all, they sleep underground for 17 years, then come out, sing for a night, and die. If that's not resurrection symbolism, I don't know what is.

      The best I can tell they are the Opus Dei of the bug world.  And, beware, their numbers are strong.

    If somebody's walking along minding his and/or her own business and accidentally steps on an Opus Dei of the bug world, does he and/or she have to go to confession?

    As always, Pinhole, a darned funny read.

    P.S. Is that security code that I have to type in when leaving a comment the number of dollars I've earned by reading your post?

      It depends on whether an entomologist witnesses the 'bugslaughter'.

      Re: P.S. - What that security code is, is a 'nuisance'...but, I haven't figured out how to get rid of it, yet.

      Thanks, Malcolm.

    Great read, Pinhole! I don't know how you do it, but you always manage to come up with some funny, funny stuff.

    This is one of my favorites too.
