The Lemon Cake Award

Wherever people gather, or parade, in any number, my sons and nieces and I love to pull
up our chairs, observe from the fringe, and share with each other our insights on
improvements these individuals might wish to implement had they, truly, any will of their
own.  No fee is associated with these critiques, as they are offered strictly as a public
service, free of charge.

Several weeks ago a number of opportunities for honing our skills presented themselves,
affording us the privilege to do our part to make the world a better place.  For my efforts,
at the end of a strenuous weekend of commenting, my oldest niece conferred upon me the
following plaque in recognition of my ability to reconcile my abiding faith and optimism
for the ascent of distinct personalities with my utter contempt for the human race.

I accepted, meekly, and tried my best to convey my gratitude.

Should you be having difficulty in making out the inscription, I would suggest that you
set aside your vanity and don that pair of reading glasses in your pocket, or purse.
(No sense getting a late start on next year’s competition!)

You niece is a cake genius! How about sending me just the top layer....please....please....please....
or....If I can think of a few unkind things to say about the human race...will I qualify for my own cake award? (Humans make it so easy don't they?)

Yes, my niece can sure cut a mean cake picture out of a magazine.  I'm afraid this may have been a one time award.

      She is that!

Great to see you, Popsicleculture!  I thought maybe you had headed for sunnier climes.

Don't be a stranger!  I check your myspace page and youtube, occasionally, just in case you make an appearance...thought you oughta know.

It was mighty refreshing to read your work again, pinhole. Checked out some of your older stuff too. It's like finding your favourite old violin in the attic. I can't even remember how I found my way here. Or how to get back. But that's ok I brought sandwiches.

        Great to read you. :0)

Thank you, Wolf.  How was the trip?  I'll be by later to check if you've posted photos.

The trip was good - I probably won't get to post any pics until tomorrow. But I made it back, thawed and in one piece.

Very nice award! Your niece is obviously a very gratifying aberration to this species, which illustrates a puzzling facet to it: almost invariably, each one starts out right.

Yes, it's hard to tell where we get turned around, isn't it?  In my case I think it involved a game of 8-Ball and a David Steinberg concert appearance.

I'm afraid both of my sons and all three of my nieces surpassed me long ago.  I'm fairly confident this was a pity prize.

It sure would be fun to be at a party with you, Pinhole. Provided, that is, that I am allowed to join you, your sons, and your nieces. I don't think it would be nearly as much fun to be the object of your observations... would it?

Thanks, Utehawk!  I was wondering, if I happen to lose to a competitor next year, will they receive a new award, or do I have to forfeit this one to supply the honor?

Oh no, contrary to popular belief, cake doesn't last in a freezer for a year (let alone 25!). There is a new Lemon Cake Award created specifically for each honoree. But between you and me - you should make room in your freezer for a slice of next years award
