Go Figure!

3rd century B.C. mathematician, Euclid, was also known as “Euclid of Alexandria” – Louisiana, not Virginia.  Aside from professional publications, all that is known of Euclid, personally, has been gleaned from Proclus and Pappus of Alexandria; waitresses on the graveyard shift at “Chickie’s Truck Stop” on the south side of town.

As with many great thinkers, and psychopaths, Euclid required very little sleep.  Most nights he could be found at the counter of “Chickie’s”, drinking hot coffee, pouring over notes and theorems, and dividing his French Fries and Tator Tots into separate groups called the Sharks and Jets to reenact key scenes from the musical “West Side Story”.

Hailed as “The Father of Geometry” we may never know what provided such inspiration in Euclid.  It’s merely speculation, but I think maybe…

He must have had a “Guardian Angle”.

Great insight into history, Pinhole. He just may have been the very first man to "have an angle" then.

      Thanks, Montucky.

Maybe not the first, but certainly was able to polish his pick up lines on Proclus and Pappus.

A couple of thoughts sparked by the history lesson, which probably represents a couple more than you expected. First, I write a weekly bulletin article called Right Angles. Make of that what you will.

The other is a recollection of seeing the movie version of Westside Story with my mother, who was always dragging me to musicals. When the guys were running through Spanish Harlem shouting/singing "Maria" on one light in one window came on. When I commented there had to me more Marias in Spanish Harlem, my mom whacked me!

You know what?  I've never seen West Side Story.

Great story, though - and I'll bet your bulletin article is a fascinating read!

I thought I was the only one who did that with my french fries.

    Great minds, huh?

Descartes walked into a truck stop and sat down at the counter.

"You want some coffee?" asked the waitress.

"I think not," said Descartes, and disappeared.

Knowing who the actors were as you were designing them helped, with Catherine's beauty and Renee's frailty, they directed me visually just by who they were.
